| Ripple Farm is a small
horticultural farm of 14 acres situated in the Stour
Valley, Kent at Crundale between Ashford and
Canterbury.
Ripple Farm has been certified Organic since 1989
and holds an Organic Symbol from the Soil Association.
The farm itself is essentially a market garden
producing a wide range of vegetables, salad, herbs and
some soft fruit. With this produce, Ripple Farm
Organics runs a local box scheme and supports the Wye
Farmers Market; supplies specialist organic shops in
London on a weekly basis; supplies other box schemes
and the wholesale trade.
The following principles are followed in the farm’s
day-to-day work:
Sustainable growing methods in harmony with nature
Producing fresh, nutritious food
Providing a direct link from consumers to Farmers
Reducing Food Miles
Recycling and reducing packaging
Providing sustainable, local employment
The farm is run as a partnership between Martin
Mackey and Simon Bowden, who both have academic
qualifications in Sustainable Agriculture and many
years of practical experience.
The Box Scheme
Ripple Farms Organics box scheme aims to provide its
customers with a seasonal range of fresh, locally
grown vegetables, salad and occasionally fruit, each
week. We grow 95 % of our produce on the farm near
Canterbury, Kent and deliver to designated drop off
points within a 20-mile radius. Customers can also
collect direct from the farm.

What’s in the Box
The box generally contains 7/9 different seasonal
items. The contents are chosen each week to give a
balance of root crops, greens and salad although the
weather places certain limitations on our choice.
Seasonal produce means our customers look forward to
their early summer strawberries and late summer
tomatoes but don’t expect them year round.
The farm includes 4 polytunnels for growing tomatoes,
aubergines, peppers, basil in the summer months and
salad and herbs during the winter.
Year round staples are potatoes, carrots and onions, a
winter box may also contain leeks, swede, purple
sprouting broccoli, parsley and a mixed salad bag
whilst a summer box may also contain chard, tomatoes,
lettuce, courgettes and a cucumber.
