Guidelines for Producers
- Produce will be local and will come from a distance of no greater than a 30 mile radius of Wye.
- Food will be produced where possible using low input or organic methods of production.
- Some stalls may be held by joint producers to enable them to be viable eg. allotment holders.
- Only good quality products and wholesome food should be sold. Produce should be well displayed and presented.
- The market is only open to the sellers of food who produce the items themselves. No bought-in produce is allowed to be sold.
- Only the producer, his/her family or employee is permitted to sell the produce.
- Stalls can be set up from 8 am. The market will open at 9 am and close at 1 pm. Stalls should not close down or pack up during these hours.
- Each stall holder should clearly display information about the producer and the products on sale.
- The allocation of stalls is solely the responsibility of the Market Manager. Stall holders must accept the location of the stall allocated to them. Priority will be given to those producers regularly attending the market.
- Stall holders should maintain their stall spaces in a clean and sanitary condition and shall be responsible for removing all boxes, packaging and debris at the end of the day. WyeCycle will provide containers for recyclable/compostable materials.
- Packaging should be kept to a minimum. Use paper cardboard rather than plastic whenever possible. Approved weighing scales must be used.
- Stall holders must post prices of their produce in a clearly visible position.
- No haranguing or aggressive selling techniques should be employed.
- All produce should adhere to the rules and regulations of the Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations, 1995 and the provisions of the Food Safety Act, 1990. Details available from Amanda Staples at Ashford Borough Council Environmental Health section, Tel: 01233-330508
- There is a No Smoking regulation for those selling foodstuffs.
