Wye has been officially designated a
"cycle friendly" village by Spokes
which has recently provided cycle racks outside
the Co-op store and at other locations around the
village to encourage people to cycle round the
village rather than using their cars.SPOKES
CYCLE FRIENDLY VILLAGES SCHEME
The aims of Spokes are:
- To encourage cycling and publicise its
benefits for the community and for
individuals.
- To ensure that Council and Government
policies actively encourage cycling and
make full provision for it as part of an
overall transport strategy through which
all members of the public can enjoy
cheap, safe and efficient travel for work
and leisure.
With an increasing membership and a wide range
of activities these aims are seen as part of the
solution to congestion and pollution.
We carry out these aims by:
- Active campaigning - letter writing and
speaking to Councillors, Members of
Parliament and others in positions of
power and authority and seeking to
influence their views.
- Publishing a free quarterly newsletter in
which we air our views and the views of
others on cycling issues and ensuring its
widest possible distribution.
- Organising a full programme of rides and
cycling events in and around Kent to be
enjoyed by ordinary people.
