This
charity was founded in 1978 by the late
Canon David Marriott, a former vicar of
the Parish. The Trusts objective is
to provide education for children in a
slum district of Delhi, under the
auspices of the Delhi Brotherhood
Society. £50 per annum goes some way to provide for
fees, uniform and books for one year. The
children may be sponsored on a
"one-to-one" basis (or not) and
each donor receives a family case
history, photograph, and six monthly
reports on their child, plus the
Trustees Annual Report and
Accounts. A short publicity video is
available. Since its inception the scheme
has supported over 700 children. Each year a member
of the Brotherhood visits Wye, while others from Wye,
with commitments in India, visit the Brotherhood.
Currently
we send upwards of £20,000 to Delhi each
year. Gifts may be "one-off" or
by regular contributions by Gift Aid or
otherwise. The administrative charges remain at under
2%: all the remainder is
forwarded to Delhi. There are no paid
staff.
Both the Queen in 1997 and Prince Charles in 2003
have visited the Brotherhood to see for themselves the work that is being achieved.
