Allotments in Wye

Wye Allotment Holders' Association is worth joining - a membership card gives you a ten percent reduction off selected goods at Leppers Ironmongers, which has a good horticultural department.

Renting a Parish Council allotment is not expensive. The new mini-plots are £5 per year. A range of different sizes of plot are available on two sites. Beanfield has recently been improved, with vacant or under-used plots made tidy. Work is underway to improve Churchfield also. An additional attraction on this site is the creation of a wildflower meadow.

Allotment holders are required to sign a contract when renting a plot. Within the guidelines, allotment holders are free to grow vegetables, soft fruit and flowers as they wish. Advice, shared experience, spare seeds and plants, even sympathy, is readily available from allotment neighbours, if required.

Ashford Borough Council also has allotments in the village - ring their Environmental Health and Leisure Services Department for details.

Diary dates:
WAHA meets quarterly at present. Meetings are held in the Methodist Church Hall at 7.30pm.

For information on the WAHA call Jane Burnham on  01233 812042. For an allotment, speak to the Parish Clerk on 01227 700909 or c/o Wye News.
