Historical Society was founded in 1948
and currently has over 120 members. The
objectives of the Society are to advance
the education of the public in local
history and historical issues of wider
import. In pursuit of this it sponsors
lectures, publications, exhibitions and
demonstrations, and provides advice and
information on historical matters. The
annual programme includes
lectures on the first Wednesday of the
month, from October to April inclusive,
at 8pm; these take place in the Wolfson
Lecture Theatre, Imperial College at Wye which is
situated opposite the College
Porters Lodge in the High Street.
During the Summer there are usually three
full-day outings of historical interest,
generally in the South East, and two
half-day local trips.
The annual subscription is presently £6.00 single and
£10.00 joint, with
visitors charged £1.50 each per meeting.
Membership includes a copy per household,
of Wye Local History published annually.
The Societys Book Collection is
housed in Wye Library, Upper Bridge
Street and its Archives are accessible through Brian
Grantley-Smith, the Wye Historical Society Archivist
on 812717.
